Subtitle: An urgent warning from senior military command
General Sir Richard Shirreff, one of Britain's highest-ranking soldiers and until recently, Deputy Head of NATO, was threatened with court martial when he dared to criticize David Cameron's defence policy. What he says here goes much further. Richard brings us an urgent warning: We are sleepwalking our way into war with Russia and we need to act now with resolution to avoid it. As well as seeing action himself on the field, Richard has sat on councils for war with Presidents and has seen first-hand how decisions are made and how war has developed.
Because of aggressive posturing, which is backing Russia into a corner, because of over-reliance on a nuclear deterrent which our military leaders know can never be used and above all because of radical defence cuts, drifted so close to a war with Russia that it is now almost inevitable. Richard believes it is his duty to tell the people, so that politicians swerve away from their disastrous course of action.
The President's War is not fiction. This is fact-based prediction, very closely modeled on what Richard Shirreff knows, based on his privileged position as a very senior military insider at the highest and best-informed level. Richard will share how the political and military decisions we are currently making, and have already made, are now propelling us into a future war.
Admiral James Stavridis, USN (Ret), Supreme Allied Commander at NATO 2009-2013 and today Dean of The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, says: 'This is no ordinary "future history", for it is told by a brave and seasoned warfighter; a former senior NATO commander who served the NATO Alliance brilliantly as my Deputy, and whose judgement I learned to trust; a man I, as an Admiral, would have leaned on for his judgement on how the land battle should be fought. Moreover, a man who really does understand the geo-political realities and risks and who has proved that he is not scared to tell it as it is. It is very rare that such a senior and experienced general is prepared to put his reputation on the line, but Richard Shirreff is that man. He correctly called the consequences of the Russian's invasion of Crimea and annexation of parts of Ukraine back in 2014. I fear that he has again correctly called the Russians' next moves in The President's War.'
