May Gibbs and her husband, James Ossoli Kelly, moved into Nutcote in February 1925. The house was designed by the noted Australian architect and designer B J Waterhouse. It was here that May worked until her death on 27 November 1969. May Gibbs encouraged children to be caring conservationists. Her conservation message is as valid today as it was when she wrote it - "Humans, please be kind to all bush creatures and don't pull flowers up by the roots".
