Hugo's backyard is the Great Forest and it goes all the way to the Forgotten Mountains. The old stationmaster warns him never to go into the forest for there are strange creatures, dragons and magic . . . One day, Hugo does enter the forest and finds a world where he can truly be himself.
Hugo soon makes a dangerous enemy, Lord Sna of the snakes, but also discovers the peace-loving blats. Lord Sna is plotting to rid the Great Forest of blats, and invites hunters in to his domain to do the job. The blats know they must leave and find a new home before the Great Forest itself is destroyed. Hugo has a plan . . .
