Anne Willan, long known as an authority on classic French cooking, has written a personal book, elegantly interweaving chapters on her life in the seventeenth century Chateau du Fey in Burgundy and its surrounds. She visits the farmers, gardeners, vintners and restaurateurs who live and breathe French cuisine and contribute to the character and flavours of the Burgundian table, which she describes as a cuisine that draws heavily on the past but flourishes in the present.
