On 3 February 1954, the newly-crowned Queen Elizabeth II became the first reigning monarch to step ashore on Australian soil. The Australian public responded passionately to the royal tour with nearly 75 per cent of the population turning out to see the Queen.
Using souvenirs, photographs and personal reminiscences of the tour, this exhibition and catalogue explores Australia's special relationship with the Crown.
The stunning catalogue, presented as a 1950s-style magazine, re-creates the glamour and sophistication of the era, right down to the paper it's printed on! Made predominately from bagasse fibre, a waste product of the sugar industry, the paper was chosen for its similarity to magazine stock of the era.
