A mystery featuring Sophie Rivers.
Sophie Rivers has left the turmoil of her inner-city college to take an MEd course at the University of the West Midlands. She's not enjoying the course. Maybe it's too long since her first degree. Or maybe it's because she's missing love-of-her-life Mike Lowden, star of the England cricket team touring Australia. Or maybe it's just that she's lost her touch as a teacher - she's getting nowhere with the group of South-East Asian students she's supposed to be helping. She confides in the excellent lecturer Carla Pentowski. But there's something strange about Carla's past - or lack of it.
When some of her students start to behave oddly, Sophie talks to her old friend, Superintendent Chris Groom. But he has news of his own: the death on his patch of first one Malay girl, then another. Then Carla disappears.
Who has hacked into the university's records? Who lies at the centre of the corruption Sophie uncovers? She's on the case - and the nearer she gets to the truth, the more unlikely it seems that she'll escape alive . . .
