Sophie Rivers is determined to make a success of her M Ed at the University of the West Midlands, and with the love of her life, Mike Lowden, touring Pakistan with the England cricket team, there should be no distractions. But when she joins the university choir Sophie finds, to her dismay, that her young colleagues are all too ready to treat her as an honourary aunt, pouring their neuroses on to her disconcerted shoulders instead of relying on their tutors.
But the teaching staff have enough of their own problems - not the least of which is an unexpected posthumous appearance from one of them at a prestigious post-concert reception. Then two of the students disappear . . .
Sophie's anxiety for her young friends, combined with her insatiable thirst for adventure, soon takes her to the heart of a world of bribery and corruption, and the most dangerous situation she's found herself in yet.
