This book traces the story of the Swedish supergroup through their songs, from their world-conquering 1970s disco beginnings, with modern classics such as 'Voulez-Vous', 'Angel Eyes', 'Chiquitita', 'Does Your Mother Know', 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' and 'I Have A Dream', through to the more reflective 1980s, with 'The Winner Takes It All' marking a watershed in their output.
Benny and Agnetha had divorced in 1979, but had, perversely, continued working together. 'The Winner Takes It All' was the first time Benny had committed his feelings about, and reactions to, this experience onto paper. From now on ABBA songs were more heartfelt, more poignant, and reveal how the pressures of constant touring, and excessive workload had put unbearable strain on the group's internal relationships.
