In this memoir, Paul told the story of his childhood and early adulthood; growing up and living in the Netherlands Indies colony; followed by the Japanese invasion and the years of military occupation; the war of Indonesian Independence; and subsequent independence of the Republic. In this period he had to attend schools in different languages, Dutch, Chinese, Indonesian and then English at the university level when moving to Australia. He includes a chapter as Travelogue, about his experience in 3 overseas travels, including travel in Turkey, Egypt and the Communist bloc countries, just before the disintegration of the USSR.
