The Alpine Touring Handbook
has all the information skiers need to get started skiing the backcountry on alpine touring (AT) gear. AT gear has an advantage over traditional telemark gear in that AT gear allows skiers to release their heels when climbing uphill but lock down their heels when skiing down, just like regular downhill skiing.
