The overthrow of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos in Cory Aquino's 'People Power Revolution' in 1986 focused world attention on the Philippines. The Western media's coverage largely took its lead from the US, and the no-holds-barred denigration of the Marcoses spilled over to tarnish the Philippines more generally. Now, twelve years after their overthrow, it is time to take a fresh look at this strange, infamous couple and the country they ruled.
