Widowed Elizabeth Blair has left her native Virginia behind to lead a peaceful life running a patchwork quilt shop in Bath. However, behind the genteel facade of the English countryside, she discovers a dramatically darker world.
Elizabeth is indignant when the anarchic Animal Liberation Front (ALF) slaps a poster in the window of her shop, Martha Washington. Furious at being singled out for terrorist attacks, she enlists the help of her dashing private eye neighbour, Max Shepard.
But when the spiteful, wealthy Joanna Drew is murdered at the Wetherburn Museum and blame is directed at the ALF, Elizabeth remains unconvinced of its involvement. As a guest lecturer at the Wetherburn, she uncovers a complicated - and dangerous - web of inter-relationships. With Thanksgiving approaching, Elizabeth and Max wait as Joanna's killer makes turkey tracks for them.
