Tatting has been around for at least 200 years. Over that time there have been waves of enthusiasm for the craft around the world, each wave building on the interest generated by earlier ones.

There have been developments and evolution in style, techniques and processes. Tatting is now practised universally and, as a result, a rich terminology has developed and a whole vocabulary has grown up, leading sometimes to confusion.
