Dawn to Dusk on a Barrier Island
An artist and her daughter wander over the island on which they've spent the summer, making sketches and notes of things they will want to remember: shells, sand dollars, fiddler crabs, herons, and more. Just before dark, a nest of loggerhead turtle eggs hatches and the baby turtles head for the sea. In a unique and intimate format, this nonfiction picture book combines full-page watercolor paintings, pencil sketches, typeset text, and handwritten notes to capture the unique environment of a barrier island. Factually accurate and very detailed, this picture book provides a glimpse into an artist's working life as well as an informative, engaging look at a fragile and beautiful ecosystem.
