Ancient Promises

The moving story of one woman's painful journey of self-discovery, Ancient Promises is about marriage, a divorce and motherhood; why we love and lose, sometimes seeming to have little control over our destinies. It is the story of Janu, vulnerable and strong, who gives up Arjun, her first great love, to follow her family's wishes and enter an arranged marriage. Slowly shut out by the coldness of her new family and her husband's indifference, she pours all her affection on to her beloved daughter and in time grows to hope that the two of them will be able to escape and live a better life together, away from Kerala. But she does not yet realise that a great love can never be forgotten. Or that promises should never be lightly made, because they always return to haunt and to exact their price, from some place where the columns are still being tallied, the dues not yet paid...
