Mel is sent down to earth alone, to do her guardian angel module. At first it seems a suitably fluffy assignment. It's 1920s Hollywood - silent movies are about to explode into talkies, and everyone wants a piece of the action.
Mel's in charge of looking after the beautiful daughter of impoverished immigrants, who dreams of becoming star. But there's more to it than just that. She's got to watch out for any number of obstacles in the way - cools stunt kids, has-been child stars, a gangster or two, and the inevitable Mr Big, the guy with the fat cigar . . .
