Desiree, physically disabled by a number of birth defects, has spent her life institutionalised, lying in hospital beds thinking and dreaming. Although she cannot walk or talk, Desiree has other, more powerful, capabilities. She is an April witch, clairvoyant and omniscient - able to leave her own body and travel into the world denied her.
When Desiree discovers that the mother who cruelly abandoned her went on to raise three foster daughters - Christina, Margareta and Birgitta - she focuses her paranormal abilities on her sisters, setting out to discover which one of them "stole" the life which should have been hers.
