Lieutenant Commander James Newton survived and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery. In a career that has seen him on operations over Bosnia, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland and most recently Iraq, Newton is no stranger to being shot at.
