Askew

The Swiss-Canadian painter Rudolf Stussi has become known for his oil paintings, watercolours, and acrylic paintings, which show city views and figures in an extreme, 'askew' perspective and therefore alienate the viewed world and make it more dynamic. Through the development of his own 'fifth perspective,' Stussi provides an entirely new answer to one of painting's ancient fundamental questions. This richly illustrated book presents a selection of his works from the past 15 years: city views and landscapes (from Berlin and New York, from Switzerland, Austria, Canada, Jerusalem and developing countries), figurative fantasy worlds, portraits and book illustrations (e.g. for Johanna Spyris' Heidi ).The artist himself has his say in unusual autobiographical stories. AUTHOR: Born in Zurich, raised in Switzerland and the United States (Lawrence, Kansas, and Grosse Pointe, Michigan) Rudolf Stussi came to Canada in 1967 to take degrees in English literature and journalism at Ottawa's Carleton University. A year of designing for the Tricycle theatre company in London, England, was followed by four years at the Ontario College of Art (two of which were spent with a off-campus program in Florence), graduating in 1978. He is represented by galleries in Canada, the United States, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. He lives in Canada and Switzerland and currently teaches and paints in Europe. 85 colour illustrations
