Originally from Brazil, the founder of the collective, Eli Sudbrack, moved to New York City in the late 1990s and studied photography. assume vivid astro focus's work can be described as two-dimensional sampling: his room-size installations are a mash-up of images, photos, graphics from a multitude of sources, including magazines, video games, album covers, advertisements, etc. By recombining all these disparate elements, he tries to create a new experience of the ideas these elements represent. Walking into one of these installations is somewhat like walking into the middle of a carnival and that is precisely what the artists want. The book will begin with an essay by Cay Sophie Rabinowitz where she explores the evolution of the collective and its founder Eli Sudbrack. The volume will include documentation of the various projects since the group's founding as well as works done specifically for the book. The special features--which include the poster, postcards, stickers, and pop-up--will also be designed specially for the book.
