As an artist and storyteller, Beatrix Potter is world famous. Less well known is her work in the Lake District, where she created beautiful, romantic interiors and gardens at her farmhouse, Hill Top, and worked to protect some of the finest examples of the region's distinctive landscape and buildings. Beatrix Potter became one of the Lake District's most effective advocates, working with the National Trust for its preservation.
Nine of Beatrix's tales were drawn from her house and garden, and the surrounding landscape, including 'The Tale of Tom Thumb' and 'The Tale of Jemima Puddle Duck' - the book shows some of the delightful pictures from the stories side-by-side with their real-life settings.
With extracts from her letters and diaries, and photographs from the Beatrix Potter archive, this book beautifully and engagingly celebrates the writer's achievements in the Lake District, which were as much a legacy as her books.
