Titled "At the Beach with Lizzie and Luke", the book focuses on the adventures of Lizzie and Luke as they perform their monthly surf patrol at their local beach. Considering the recent spate of drownings in Australia, the book aims to engage young readers (3-7 years of age) with an entertaining story but at the same time reinforce important safety information. Being a father to two young children, Conrick noticed that there was a void in the supply of quality beach safety books aimed at children. He has been a volunteer lifesaver for 25 years and is saddened at the high occurrence of drowning we still experience in Australian waterways. Educating children early, on how to be safe while enjoying our beautiful beaches can help reduce these drowning statistics. "At the Beach with Lizzie and Luke" also reinforces values that are important for child development such as working as a team, communicating efficiently, contributing positively to the community and also promoting the benefits of a safe but active lifestyle. Each book contains general safety information at the rear of the book. About the Author As summer approaches and we all start to head to the beach, water safety for kids is crucial. Former champion Surf Life Saver Boyd Conrick has created a delightful illustrated children's book that educates youngsters on how to stay safe at the beach by swimming between the red and yellow flags erected by Surf Life Savers. Boyd Conrick wants to educate children about safety along our coastlines so they will be safe at the beach during their youth and into their adult lives. Boyd has been a well-respected member of the Surf Life Saving community for more than 20 years, has performed numerous rescues and has spoken at many schools about water safety. He is a former champion Surf Life Saver as well as being a champion triathlete, and is generally a very well known and respected local identity.
