When fourteen-year-old Tomas and his well-off family go on their annual seaside summer vacation, he unexpectedly unravels. Sullenly detached from his parents, forced to confront death when his aunt is taken seriously ill, he befriends some local working-class kids and becomes involved in a dark incident, and is subsequently plagued by guilt and confusion.
In an attempt to come to terms with himself, he seeks atonement and forgiveness, but ambiguity lurks even in this redemption.
