A gloriously lavish look at the multicoloured, multicultural and multifaceted life of the nation.
Australia Today takes a broad sweeping view of the nation in a way that highlights our vibrant and stylish culture and unique way of life. The content is organised state-by-state and provides-
*a snapshot of each state and territory (history, industries, stats and facts)
*physical icons (ie, the Kimberley and Monkey Mia for WA; Coober Pedy opal mines for SA; Uluru for the NT; the Three Sisters for NSW)
*regional wildlife (crocodiles and funnelweb spiders to platypi and quokkas)
*cultural icons (the Opera House; the MCG; the Stockman's Hall of Fame, the big banana)
*style-file (houses, interior design, gardens; fashion, designers, iconic shops; food, wine, restaurants, cafes, markets)
*sport (AFL for Vic, league for NSW/QLD)
*art and culture (iconic artists; dance, music, opera and theatre; movies; books; arts/writers festivals)
*personalities (TV, media, sport, film)
*notable areas and towns (Margaret River, Ballarat, Broken Hill, Alice Springs)
*regional variations in expressions and slang
The text is presented in a fresh and contemporary magazine-style layout with plenty of breakout boxes, lists, headings and quotes. The look is smart and modern. There are two pics on average on each page, interspersed with some gorgeous full-page and double-page bleeds and regular feature spreads to highlight particular topics. The photography throughout is lush and appealing.
The idea is to update the book each year or every 2 years so it can be offered as a completely up-to-the-minute look at the way we are. This means certain content will change from year to year, such as the Australian of the year, winners of awards such as the Logies, ARIAs, AFIs and Oscars, the winner of the Archibald and winners of the Brownlow medal and Olympic and Commonwealth Games medals. Other content to be refreshed includes new restaurants, fashion, property developments or landmark events.
