Australia is a vast country, and its landscapes are rich and prodigiously varied. The photographs in Australia Wide: Spirit of a Nation reflect this variety, while at the same time conveying the elusive and distinctive quality that makes the Australian countryside unique. While many of the scenes feature well-known and often-visited landmarks, these are shown in a perspective that will surprise and delight even the most seasoned travellers. Other scenes are well off the beaten track and will be a revelation to Australians and visitors alike.
The photographs, which include magnificently sweeping Widelux and Technorama shots, as well as some superbly detailed 35mm images, were taken over a period of six years, during which the photographer undertook expeditions to some of the most inaccessible parts of the country. In Ken's travels, he came into close contact with a great variety of Australians, both black and white. The stories of some of these encounters are told in the introductions to each section of the book. These stories complement the images and offer their own special insights into the nature and true spirit of this timeless and largely unknown land.
