This work of Black feminist theory explores a complex set of interrelated issues. It establishes the significance of such wide-ranging subjects as: cultural crossings, language and the politics of location; gender, heritage and identity; African women's writing and resistance to domination; marginality, effacement and decentering. The text attempts to broaden the discourse surrounding the representation of and by black women.
