Carlos Bracher (1940-), one of the most renowned contemporary artists from Brazil, comes from a Swiss family, which immigrated to Brazil in 1980. Born in 1940 in Juiz de Fora, Bracher went to Europe in the 1960s where he mostly stayed in Paris, Lisbon, Saint Petersburg and Moscow. Over the last decade he has had exhibitions in Luxembourg, Brussels, Bruges, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Prague, Moscow, Basel, Rotterdam, Tokyo and Beijing. This title is a very personal portrait of the artist published by Nicolai on the occasion of the focus on Brazil: host of the FIFA World Cup in 2014 as well as host of the Olympic Games in 2016. The publication of the work was generously supported by Serviço Social da Industria (SESI). "Direct and true, Carlos Bracher's art results from the force of the gesture that deforms and displaces the familiar meanings of imitative painting. It is impossible to define the intense thing that crosses the informality of his varied masses, but we can characterize its effects as a musical appearance of the will, which makes us see the intuition of the apparition or the mining of a soul." Dr. Joao Adolfo Hansen, Professor for Brazilian Literature and Art, University of Sao Paulo 80 colour illustrations
