Kevin Walters had a life that would be the envy of most men. He hailed from a large and loving family; had a decade of great seasons for the Brisbane Broncos; starred for Queensland and Australia; and was blissfully married to his childhood sweetheart Kim, mother of their two strapping sons.
Then in August 1996, tragedy struck when Kim was diagnosed with breast cancer. Pregnant with their third child, she refused potentially life-saving chemotherapy until her baby was old enough to be delivered prematurely. Jett was born at seven month, Kim died 15 months later, aged 29.
Brave Hearts is much more than the tale of a sports star, it is the love story of Kim and Kevin Walters. It tells of her courageous battle with cancer, how her memory inspired him to play the best football of his career, to become captain of the Brisbane Broncos, and how he is raising three sons as a single father. Today Kevin Walters is throwing himself into an additional role as patron of the Kim Walters Choices Program, a breast cancer counselling service set up in his wife's name.
