This lovely book is inspired by Maria Sibylla Merian's beautiful studies of insect metamorphosis. An intrepid and gifted artist, Merian travelled to Suriname in 1699 to undertake research into the flora and fauna of the country. These vibrant illustrations are luxury versions of plates from the book which Merian published on her return. Prized for their combination of artistic skill and scientific rigour they were acquired by George III and are now part of the Royal Collection. We present Merian's artworks alongside individual black-and-white outlines, so that you can enjoy colouring these gorgeous images for yourself.
