This book provides background knowledge at the entry level into the biomedical applications of carbon nanomaterials, focusing on three applications; bioimaging, bioanalysis and therapy. Carbon nanomaterials have different shapes and structures like carbon nanotubes, nanodiamonds, fullerenes, carbon nanohorns, carbon nanodots and nanographene. However, not every carbon nanomaterial is promising for the respective biomedical applications. The book begins with a general introduction to carbon nanomaterials for biomedical applications, including a discussion about the pros and cons of various carbon nanomaterials for the respective applications. The book then goes on to describe various applications in bioimaging, bioanalysis and therapy; each chapter briefly introduces the biomedical application, and emphasizes the most appropriate carbon nanomaterial(s) for the application.
Topics covered include:
?ull; Functionalization of carbon nanomaterials for therapeutic applications
?ull; Biocompatibility/toxicity
?ull; Fluorescence imaging
?ull; Magnetic Resonance Imaging with carbon nanomaterials
?ull; Pre-clinical/clinical bioimaging applications
?ull; Electrochemical and Optical bioanalysis of carbon nanomaterials
?ull; Image-guided drug delivery
?ull; Targeted cancer therapy
