Basil Hume, Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster, was an outstanding and much loved religious leader. His death at the age of 76 saddened not only the Catholic Church but the whole christian community. Although first and foremost a Roman Catholic, and a Benedictine monk, who never compromised the reality of his own faith, his obvious authority and holiness was felt and acknowledged generally. He practised his faith; there was no gap between his teaching and his life, yet his unassuming style and the ordinariness of his spirituality made his vision of Christ accessible to all.
This little book of his teaching on all aspects of the Christian life is a tribute to this remarkable man who always focused on his God, never on himself, and who has left a legacy of serenity and joy as a model for life as a Christian.
