Caruso is a cat who fancies himself as a bit of a crooner. He sings a lovely scale to the moon, and admires each of the individual notes in turn. Unfortunately, Caruso's operatic overtures are not appreciated by his neighbours. Mrs Evans, who is being kept awake by Caruso's caterwauling, throws a bucket of water at him. The hapless Caruso's other critics include a newspaper boy, a nasty dog and a squawking parrot. Caruso's quest for artistic expression and acceptance remains unfulfilled and he sadly settles down for a nap, never having finished his song to the moon.
The next night Caruso finds a very isolated spot on a high roof, the perfect place to sing his song to the moon uninterrupted. Such was the philistinism of the other neighbours, that when smoke starts pouring out of the house he thinks to himself, 'They are trying to smoke me out of here'. But he decides that nothing is going to prevent him from finishing his song this time. Caruso's final flourish wakes up the whole family below.
What will this angry family do to poor old Caruso?
