This is the unique account of one man's life aboard a German U-boat in the Second World War, probably the only first-hand account ever to appear in print. Wolfgang Hirschfeld risked court martial and possible death by keeping a dairy of his career on U-boats, which lasted from 1940 until the end of the war. But Hirschfeld survived for one final voyage, which will remains wrapped in mystery as his U-boat surrendered en route to Japan with a cargo of radioactive material and an Me 263 on board.
