'Child Of Tibet' follows a young Tibetan woman’s flight to freedom. Born of noble descent during the Chinese occupation, Soname’s parents sent her to Lhasa to keep her safe, but she was forced to become a child slave. At sixteen, Soname escaped from Tibet. She risked death in a six week trek for freedom across the Himalayas. With Buddhist monks for company, she faced wild animals, freezing temperatures, near starvation and the perpetual threat of discovery by Chinese soldiers. She reached Kathmandu in Nepal and from there she made her way to Dharamsala in north India, home of the Dalai Lama. But Soname’s escape did not immediately herald happier times. At her lowest point in India, she was destitute and was forced to give up her young daughter. Her luck only began to change when she grasped the opportunity to settle in England. Soon her exceptional voice and singing of the haunting Tibetan mountain songs was discovered when she sang for the first time at a friend’s wedding. A music industry insider happened to be a guest and helped her to begin a singing and song writing career. Since 1998 Soname appeared at Glastonbury where she sang with Asian Dub Foundation and has toured Iceland with Bjork. Her debut album, Unforgettable Land received acclaim but tracing her lost daughter remains Soname’s preoccupation.
