Chinese people now comprise over 5 per cent of Australia's population. Compared to most previous immigrants, they are middle-class, academically successful, ambitious in business, and connected to similarly-inclined family members overseas. Their contribution to Australia has already been significant and is growing rapidly.
This phenomenon is an important element of modern Australia. It also poses challenges for other middle-class Australians, as standards are raised, particularly in schools and universities, by the Chinese dedication to hard work and coaching.
This book describes the lives of Chinese immigrants since Tiananmen Square and looks at some personal success stories.
