This History of Throwing in Australian Cricket extends from the early 1900s to the recent scandle involving Murali. It is
both historically revealing as well as tackling the controversy of chucking head on. The approach is to take two parallel courses.
The main one is a continuing narrative of the history of throwing in Australia, and alongside that is the documenting of the cases of all twenty-two bowlers who have been no-balled for the offence. In addition are two other chapters, 'Couldabeens' and 'The Callers and Umpiring Ethics'.
Bernard Whimpress is the South Australian Cricket Association Historian and Curator of the Adelaide Oval Museum. He is well respected both in Australian and overseas for his writing on cricket history, and amongst many books he is the co-author of The Penquin History of Australian Cricket.
