Berlin, 1943. A city of women. With her husband on the Eastern Front, Sigrid Schröder is the model soldier's wife: going to work, making do with rations, even dutifully caring for her difficult mother-in-law.
But there is another Sigrid. The woman who dreams of a Jewish lover, now lost in the chaos of the war. And this Sigrid has to make a fateful decision: whether to hide her lover's family. Suddenly, the smallest choices have undreamed of consequences. An ordinary woman caught in extraordinary times, Sigrid must find the strength not just to keep herself alive, but also to save the lives of others . . .
