The "Kieffer Commando," a detachment of 177 Frenchmen, led by Lieutenant Philippe Kieffer, formed part of Lord Lovat's 1st Special Service Brigade, and were the only French troops to land in Normandy on D-Day. Lord Lovat's aim was to seize the eastern end of the Normandy bridgehead, and the Kieffer Commando was sent against the port of Ouistreham, where the strategically important Caen canal enters the sea. This book is a collection of memoirs of the veterans of the Kieffer Commando. A stunning collection of photographs complements the text.
