Tim Brewer has a problem: everything he owns is slowly disappearing. First his clock radio, then his watch. His first instinct is that his sister is stealing them but that's quickly dismissed. Then his stereo disappears. It's time to talk to the parents.
They refuse even to look in his room. He's imagining things. He needs to get a grip on reality. Maybe if he helped out more around the house. Maybe if he worked harder at school. Maybe if he was nicer to his sister. Maybe then he wouldn't feel the need to make things up?
Anyway, they don't have time to talk about it. Tim's going crazy. How can his parents deny this? The next day his chest of drawers, his clothes and everything else disappears except his bed and his wardrobe.
His friends propose a sting operation. What they discover is a surprise to everyone. It's Tim's parents who are taking his stuff! They are caught on video taking his wardrobe away. But why?
And then Tim begins to believe that his parents want to get rid of him, too. And his fantasies get wilder and wilder. In the end the answer is simpler than he could have believed, but there's still a nagging doubt in Tim's mind . . .
