Once thought of as old-fashioned hobby best left to 1970s enthusiasts, crochet is in fashion again! Crocheted pieces have begun to feature in collections by major fashion houses, from Chanel bags to Paul Smith's homage to the 'granny' square.
Although not yet quite as popular as knitting clubs, crochet clubs are really starting to take off. Crochet is highly portable (you can even take a crochet hook on a plane!) and makes the ideal social craft. Small squares or motifs can be crocheted at the bus stop, in the park or even in the pub! These can then be transformed into much larger pieces.
Sarah Hazell's new book of modern crochet patterns is perfect for those who have mastered the basics of crochet, but are looking for stylish projects that are practical, but fun to make. Recreating the crochet club experience, the book can be used by individuals or as a project book for groups. A virtual crochet club will exist alongside the book, with additional online material such as how-to videos and downloadable extras. All the designs are shown in a fresh and contemporary colour palette, and projects include ideas for modern pieces for the home, along with jewellery and fashion accessories, and toys and gifts.
