Silas Jones is the sole law enforcement officer in Amos, Mississippi. It's a quiet town. The last excitement there was nearly twenty years ago, when a teenage girl disappeared on a date with Larry Ott. The law couldn't prove Larry guilty, but the whole town has shunned him ever since, and his life has been in shambles.
