Da Wei and his father were poor tenant farmers whose landlord, the local magistrate, is a greedy man. Da Wei's father dies and leaves Da Wei his only possession - a large rock from the ocean that had been given to him by a lonely old fisherman, with the promise that one day a light would shine from the rock and show the way to treasures beneath the sea. And one day, the light does blaze forth.Da Wei travels to the seaside village where the old fisherman had lived and miraculously, the sea opens a path for him. Da Wei walks between walls of water to a splendid mansion where he finds a kitten, who he takes back to his farm. Before too long, Da Wei learns the magic of the kitten and the rock and is able to find happiness, a bride, and to thwart his corrupt landlord.
