Beginning in Savannah in 1864, the Civil War is ripping the South apart and two men, a master and his slave, go to guard Raccoon Island off the Savannah coast. Yet the two men are killed, leaving behind the family jewels, taken for safe-keeping, in case the Yankees invaded Savannah — which are hidden somewhere on the island.
Over a hundred years later, the descendants of these two men, caught in a world governed by political intrigue, personal vendettas and the legacies of a long-over war, brave the stories of Raccoon Island in an attempt to recover the lost treasure – and in the process they uncover the secrets of one of Savannah’s most prominent – and dangerous – families.
