On 28 February 1986, Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme was gunned down on a Stockholm street by an unknown assailant. After an international manhunt, the murder remained unsolved. On 12 June 1988, a bomb plot intended to kill leading members of the anti-Apartheid movement at the Mandela Freedom march in Glasgow was foiled. Once again, those responsible were never found.

In July 2005, author Wayne Thallon met the man who provides the connection between these two seemingly unrelated incidents. Athol Visser, or 'Ivan the Terrible', is a trained torture technician who has maimed and murdered his way around the globe. He killed his first victim at 16, his last at 60, and, in between, has been a soldier, scientist, smuggler and spy. In the 1980s, he rose to the highest ranks of the CCB, South Africa's foreign assassination unit, and was posted to London, where he was tasked with eliminating external opponents of the Apartheid regime.

After the end of Apartheid, Ivan used his skills to become one of the most powerful international drugs and arms traffickers. He was renowned for his ruthlessness and continued his relationship with many foreign intelligence and customs agencies who afforded him more protection than many would care to admit.

'The Demon Assassin' is the disturbing story of a degenerate, evil man, told in his own words. In the end, now ravaged by AIDS, he has taken it upon himself to find out the reasons behind his unforgivable actions.
