Jefferson Hinkley, investigator for the British Horse Racing Authority, is approached by champion jockey Dave Swinton. When told about thrown races and blackmail, Jeff advises a reluctant Swinton to do the right thing. But that's far from the end of the matter. The following day an attempt is made on Hinkley's life. At the same time Swinton misses a race, only to turn up dead in a burnt-out car. The police call it suicide - but Hinkley doesn't believe a word of it. He's determined to find out the truth. Unfortunately, the truth is something that the few who know it will protect at any price . . .
