Die Ideale is the penultimate work of the revolutionary series of thirteen tone poems Liszt composed for orchestra. It was originally intended to be the final one, since the final symphonic poem followed more than two decades after this work's completion and premiere - which took place on 9 September 1857 with the Weimar hofkapelle conducted the composer.
