As HRH Prince William says, 'The Earth is at a tipping point and we face a stark choice: either we continue as we are and irreparably damage our planet, or we remember our unique power as human beings and our continual ability to lead, innovate, and problem-solve. People can achieve great things. The next ten years present us with one of our greatest tests - a decade of action to repair the Earth.'
After 100,000 years of human history, we stand at a tipping point where the next decade will determine the future for our species, and our planet. Between human population growth, overconsumption, climate change, pollution and industrialisation, the world we inhabit is under huge strain. But it's not too late to turn the tide.
What we need is action and optimism. Ambitious goals for our planet which, if achieved by 2030, will improve life for all of us, for the rest of the ecosystem, and for generations to come. We've called these 'Earthshots' and they are to:
Protect and restore nature
Revive our oceans
Clean our air
Fix our climate
Build a waste free world
From the coral reefs of Mexico, via palm oil plantations in Borneo and sheep farms in Australia, to the forests of Kenya, Earthshot is a truly global manifesto for what's gone wrong, where we are now, and how it can be fixed - and of how we as individuals can be driving forces for that sea change.
