Reality is coming apart . . .
Glastonbury - dawn breaks over this mysterious focus of a thousand pilgrimages; one man is witness as an unearthly black cloud swallows the ancient town leaving only a primordial swamp. He briefly glimpses the distant past, of ancient creatures and the first men, but the crushing experience leaves him a maddened wreck.
Mesopotamia - Frances Devereux, doctor and psychic, is kidnapped from reality by an identical cloud and trapped in a strange land. She and her two companions descend into a primitive orgy of violence, sex and eventually murder. She escapes but as a profoundly changed, possessed woman.
As apocalyptic events spread throughout the sacred places of the world, it seems that only Frances has the answer within her. Together with Michael, her fellow traveller and lover, she embarks on a journey of discovery, to be reborn in a paradise that no Garden of Eden can possibly equal.
