Passions stir in a sleepy Andalucian community when don Eugenio can no longer contain his lust for the miller's beautiful wife, Frasquita. Conspiring with the town mayor, the lovelorn Eugenio tricks the miller, Lucas, into leaving his wife alone at the mill one night where he intends to seduce her. But things do not go according to plan as Eugenio has not reckoned on Frasquita's strength of character or on the wily miller's determination to avenge his pride when he assumes that his wife has been a willing accomplice in the devious stratagems.
A rollicking farce that contains elements of earlier Spanish bawdy tales, 'The Three-Cornered Hat' offers a lively commentary on the state of Spanish society in the years leading up to Napoleon's invasion of 1808.
