Richard Parkinson was a steam fireman based at the former Exmouth Junction steam depot on the outskirts of Exeter. From here he worked passenger and freight trains on the main line to Salisbury as well as west to Okehampton and occasionally beyond.
As an enthusiast as well as a dedicated railwayman, he faithfully recorded these trips in both words and pictures, capturing a snapshot in time that is now long-lost. A compelling and at times hilarious account, this unique book is a must-have purchase for all keen railway enthusiasts.
